IN THE NAME OF GOD
BLIOGRAPHY
OF
IRAN’S ISLAMIC
REVOLUTION
Preface
Current research work is the second and the third volumes of a series of works containing bibliography and books review on the subject of Islamic Revolution of Iran. Its first volume was published in the year 1998 by Center of Studies and Research on Media of Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and it focused on introducing the books published in connection with Islamic Revolution and the relevant issues from1979 to 1993. Mentioned bibliography included the printed books in Persian and English language published on domestic and international level that could be really considered a comprehensive bibliography with regard to Islamic Revolution. The objective pursued by compilation of this book as it has been mentioned in its preface was to provide such collection, which could make scholars and researchers aware about existing sources and research regarding the Islamic Revolution and prevent from on going repetitive and similar works.
Undoubtedly, permanence and up to date information are from among the signs of validity and comprehensiveness of every bibliography. Therefore, authentic bibliographies are made up of unlimited collections, on other hand; constantly carrying out of such researches and compilations are unattractive and expensive. Because of exclusive and smaller number of addressees only a fewer publishers incline for investment and publishing of such researches. Therefore, keeping on this work of bibliography on the Islamic Revolution depended upon the offers and financial favors of the foundations and institutions designed for providing such facilities and inclined to be getting involved in such activities toned with their competence and charter. Subsequent to the publishing of the 1st volume, the proposal was put forward by the institute of publication and compilation of works of Imam Khomeini (r) in this regard, and it provided grounds and conditions for pursuing the task on extensive and perfect level. Current research is the ongoing part of the first volume of the bibliography on the Islamic Revolution of Iran, which is considered as outcome of the efforts of some years undertaken by research team and support of respected authorities of the institute of compilation and publication of works of Imam Khomeini (r).
The detailed discussion has been initiated in the preface of 1st volume with regard to specification of the bibliography, regardless of all this, mentioning of some points seems necessary to look upon some set of regulations and realm of bibliography, information and other steps taken in this regard.
Realm of Topic
Although the current research includes intensive realm regarding the Islamic Revolution of Iran from phase of language, yet the necessity of preserving proportion and topic based harmonization between the 2nd and 3rd volumes and the 1st one necessitated that the range of research (except the year of publication of the introduced works) would be measured by the same token. Following explanations provide a clear image from the range of topic based research:
1. suitable for fulfilling the needs of researchers, seeing that, only the books covering the fields of political, economical and social were undertaken. Thus, similar to 1st volume, it has been avoided from registering of the books of poetry, stories, the last will of martyrs, photo collections, paintings and luxury books of having commercial aspects. Regardless of all, research works on above mentioned topics cover the range of current research.
2. Generally speaking, the events and changes took place subsequent to the emergence of Islamic Republic System (the system emerged as result of revolution, subjects and other relevant issues), from among those the imposed war, separatist movements, terrorist operations against Islamic Republic, political ties with foreign countries, the polls, groups and political factions, political personalities, religious, the government, social and economic state of affairs have been considered topics cover the bibliography.
3. The works pledged to analyze the political and social changes took place earlier than the revolution and elucidation of the factors and grounds of revolution are intended as the part of bibliography.
4. The works, which exceeds to forty-eight pages, are measured as a book.
The differences between 1st volumes and volumes 2nd and 3rd
Regardless of the common range of topic based subjects as we pointed out above, the introduced works in these two volumes are different from those presented in the 1st volume as of type and time order. Some of these differences are as under:
1. The first volume introduces the books published in Persian and English languages pledged to Islamic Revolution of Iran while in the second and third volumes the works have been introduced, which published in the realm of four languages of Persian, English, Arabic and French.
2. The first volume consists of the information about the published books covering the range of topic based materials, incorporated the books regarding the Islamic revolution and a small number of thesis, whereas through in volumes second and third following efforts have been undertaken:
- The university thesis on Islamic Revolution presented in the Iranian, American and European universities are to be introduced except the thesis written down in French language have been registered at the ending part of French bibliography because of occupying of smaller number of entrances. Each of Persian and English theses has been introduced in separate sections.
- The books consist of “the collections of articles” and some of its articles are to be met with the range of topic based subject matters in the “bibliography of Islamic Revolution” such have been introduced under its relevant bibliography, of course by intending of language proportion.
- It is avoided from listing the information about certain article collections, which occupy a smaller part of whole collection or these are some part of one of the articles relevant to the Islamic Revolution of Iran, yet an independent part has been undertaken as articles’ bibliography to preserve the comprehensiveness of bibliography regarding such articles, and articles of such books introduced in this section are mostly in English.
3. First volume covers a time order and period of the years (1992-2000); it is evident as the 1st volume pledged only to the certain books published in two languages of Persian and English, in the two later volumes the time range and order for Arabic and French books and thesis have been considered from 1979 to 2000. In relevant section of English and the Persian books published in abroad, relevant information of such types of books have been brought here which were published earlier than 1992 and were not introduced in 1st volume.
The Method of Collection
The scientific method adopted in compilation of bibliography was to consult directly to relevant books for extracting information, due to some limitations and deficiencies pointed out above, mostly there has been made use of indirect sources such as informative websites on internet, domestic and foreign data banks, listings, bibliographies and bulletins.
Information on current bibliography has been collected through data banks and existing published books cover a period till the year 2001. The informative units registered in sources and data banks later than this series have not been listed due to being of unapproachable till mentioned dates. Abstract s
Compilation of abstract of a book technically and from accuracy perspective requires a direct check with the book yet it was not possible to have direct accession to the certain books in implementation of this research except some of cases where the original sources were accessed. In other cases, which form 85% of bibliography, there has been relied on indirect sources in extracting the information with regard to bibliography and compiling the abstracts. Therefore, the perpetrator of this project had been facing the limitation especially in preparing the abstracts. As a result, there has been sufficed on registering the bibliographical information without having of their abstracts in many of sources including the bibliographical works, CDs and data banks. Therefore, the perpetrators of this project inevitability have sufficed over presenting the brief information in preparing the abstract of each book, which sometimes has been collected from different sources, and in case of existence of abstract in indirect sources, they have made them obligated with the undertaking of the structure and relevant information presented there. Sometimes, especially as regard to non-Persian sources; if two or more abstracts have been accessed from different sources, there has been presented one abstract by their combination. What is intended by abstract in this Bibliography is presentation of an existing assortment of information about he book and its contents, which could be useful to interested ones and users. There has been sufficed in presenting mere information in some cases if there did not exist a possibility of preparing an abstract.
