Imam Khomeini united ranks of Muslims to confront common enemies: Sheikh Zakzaky

A senior Shia Nigerian cleric says Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic countered political and factional divisions and focused on uniting the ranks of Muslims to confront common enemies.

In an inclusive interview, Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky affirmed that Imam Khomeini was the first to raise the banner of Islamic unity.

Zakzaky made remarks during an interview with media section of international affairs department of the institute for compilation and publication of Imam Khomeini.

The interview was conducted on the sidelines of the 39th International Conference on Islamic Unity to the principles of Imam Khomeini .

Sheikh Zakzaky pointed out that the US-led Western powers were currently representing the serious threat to the Muslim world, explaining that these powers support takfiri terrorist groups and fuel internal strife among Muslims with the aim of dividing and weakening them.

"Western powers are our greatest threat. They have separated Muslims from each other by creating Takfiri movements and fueling internal disputes. Today, we must remove the walls of division and bring our religious brothers closer together."

"Today we need to remove the walls of division and bring our brothers in faith closer together, because unity is the only way to confront these conspiracies," the senior cleric said.

"Mutual recognition and common understanding We must know that the enemies of Islam are clearly seeking to harm religion and create a dangerous project like Greater Israel. Only with unity and cooperation can we stop this sedition."

"The Quran warns that if believers are indifferent to each other, great sedition and corruption will engulf the earth. The current situation in the Islamic world is precisely the result of ignoring this advice," the senior Nigerian cleric said.

Concluding his remarks, Sheikh Zakzaky said that he had met Imam three times which became a source of great inspiration.

"Every time I come to his shrine, I feel that he is alive and speaking to me. I will not rest until I convey the concerns of the Islamic Ummah to his lofty soul."

"I had the honor of meeting him three times during his lifetime, and whenever I visit his shrine, I feel as if he is alive and speaking to me. I never rest until I convey to his pure soul the concerns of the Islamic nation."
