The society at the time of Imam Hussein (as) was in such as state that, the holy Imam (as) was forced to take a strong stand and endure great tragedies to save the TRUE Islam. The ceremonies and other acts of mourning we carry out and hold are not only to achieve merits but rather to remember the message of pure Islam and keep it alive.

After taking photographs of the Muharram ceremonies held in Iran, two Polish photographers talked of the new way they viewed the Shia and Iran. They stated that they saw Iran as a family, whose most loved member was Imam Hussein (as).

Sayyid Hassan Khomeini:

“Ashura is an uprising against oppression and deviation.”

Sayyid Hassan Khomeini said: “We are now faced with a society, which more than ever is in need of learning and understanding the lesson of Ashura. We must always keep Ashura as a fountain of truth in our minds.”

It is a month wherein the blood conquered the sword; it is a month in which the power of truth defeated the wrong forever and stamped the forehead of tyrants and the satanic governments and their stigma.‬

Protesting the Capitulation and inviting the people and `ulama' to uprising

The leader of the Iranian revolution issued a statement, which showed his opposition to the Capitulation Bill in 1964. This statement lead to the removal and nullification of this bill . Excerpts of this message is as follows: Now the American military and non-military advisers, their families and their servants are free to commit any crime and the Iranian police do not have the right to arrest them. The Iranian courts are not qualified to judge over them; Why? Because America is the country of dollars and Iran needs those dollars! According to this shameful enactment, if an American adviser or the servant of an American adviser insults or offends against one of the maraji` at-taqlid of Iran, one of the esteemed people, one of the high-ranking officers, the police are not allowed to arrest him; the courts are not allowed to judge him. But if their dogs are offended, the police have to interfere and the court should investigate!

Who would have believed that the dictatorships ruling the Arab world would fall one by one or that protests against capitalism would emerge in the West? What has really been shocking is the Western demonstrations against the economic policies of the world’s greatest powers. Instead of occupying, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans are now occupying Wall Street. It seems they have finally woken up and now seen the real world they are living in.

Sayyid Hassan Khomeini issued a statement, giving his commiserations for the sad demise of Hajj Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Shari’ati.

Sayyid Hassan Khomeini said:

Art is not only an impartial means of expressing problems within society

"A group of mature and young poets met up with Sayyid Hassan Khomeini and recited their poems for him and gave their views regarding the society. Sayyid Hassan told them of their duties as artists, and said that they should not be an impartial means of expressing problems but should also step forward and help solve them, however difficult this transition may be."
